Project Summary

Sarasota County Government, Englewood Community Redevelopment Area (CRA) is pleased to announce that they will be solicitating original ARTWORK to be displayed in the Art Scape Sculpture Garden, located in the 400 block of W. Green Street.

Art Scape, a public art project, was initiated to bring opportunities for Englewood visual artists to showcase local talents into public spaces; further expand the reach of the arts; broaden public exposure and to welcome cultural tourism to the Englewood area.  With the aid of dedicated funding provided by the Englewood CRA and through a competitive and professionally juried selection process, Englewood visual artists are invited to create and submit original ARTWORK. Seven pieces of ARTWORK will be selected and displayed in the sculpture garden for a period of three years.

Project Goals

  • Encourage, promote and support the talents and visibility of Englewood visual artists by expanding public exhibition opportunities;
  • Provide unique opportunities for an all-inclusive viewing public to access and enjoy visual art beyond a gallery or museum experience at their convenience, and “admission free”
  • Stimulate the local economy by welcoming & increasing cultural tourism;
  • Provide creative experiences in unexpected public places by integrating the arts into nontraditional venues and transforming the ordinary, into the extraordinary;
  • Provide a catalyst for dialogue; encourage socialization;
  • Graffiti deterrent;
  • Create and encourage partnership opportunities;
  • Responds to the Englewood CRA Plan PI-10 (Create “Heart of the Arts” Improvement Program;
  • Change the present collective mindset to expect public art throughout our community as the “new normal”;

Benefit to Visual Artists

  • $500 honorarium for each artist whose ARTWORK is selected; and any proceeds from sponsorships will be split amongst the artists.
  • Wide distribution of companion tourism booklet identifying/highlighting featured ARTWORKs and artists and encouraging public touring.
  • ARTWORK accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for 3+ years

Eligibility

This competitive opportunity is open to all established and emerging 3D visual ARTISTS in the Englewood community.

Selection Process and Design Criteria

The selection panel will be comprised of arts professionals from a variety of visual arts disciplines. ARTWORK will be judged for artistic excellence, technical merit, the ability to complement the setting where it will be displayed and how well the ARTWORK translates into large scale viewing.

Year 2021 Calendar

February 28, 2021 Deadline for receipt of Artist Application/Entry Form and Submission

Photos. All materials are to be submitted to the CRA no later than 5 p.m.

March 1-15, 2021 Judging and Selection

March 29, 2021 Notification of Finalists - selected artists/ARTWORKs will be notified by the CRA (possibly sooner if judging is completed sooner)

July 19, 2021 Delivery of the original ARTWORK to Triangle Park – Green Street

July 19-20, 2021 Installation of the ARTWORK at Triangle Park
